Raising a Dusky Lorikeet in Barmer: local climate
Barmer is hottest in May, averaging 42°C in the afternoon, and stays above 38°C from April to June. A Dusky Lorikeet needs real protection from that: a cage well away from windows and direct sun, a shallow bath dish, and a room that stays under about 32°C.
Winters are cool rather than cold, with January nights around 9°C. A light sweater helps a small Dusky Lorikeet on the coldest nights.
There is no long rainy season; what rain there is falls mostly in August.
For a new Dusky Lorikeet bird, the easiest months to arrive are February, March and November: not too hot, not too wet, and warm enough at night.
| Month | Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Jun | Jul | Aug | Sep | Oct | Nov | Dec |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| High °C | 24 | 28 | 34 | 39 | 42 | 41 | 38 | 36 | 36 | 36 | 31 | 26 |
| Low °C | 9 | 12 | 18 | 23 | 27 | 28 | 28 | 26 | 24 | 21 | 16 | 10 |

Climate figures: NASA POWER long-term monthly averages for a roughly 50 km area around the city, so rain near hills or the coast can read higher than in the city itself.
